Drill baby drill

The last time most of the people asked said they were in favor of drilling for oil off our coasts was 1981.

Today 53% of people asked are NOT in favor of drilling off our coasts.

All it takes is one mistake and our coasts are changed forever.

Look at the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Sure people acted quickly, billions of dollars later things have been cleaned up, but the coast will never ever be the same.

In 1989 the Exxon Valdez spilled somewhere between 260 and 750 thousand barrels of oil into Prince William Sound. 23 years later they still find oil under rocks, in the sand and in the sea life.

Are you willing to take that chance for a tank of gas?

From 1984 until 1990 Newt Gingrich was a member of conservation group that opposed offshore oil drilling. Now he is saying just drill off our coasts and oil will be $2.50 except in California where we will have to pay oh, maybe 50 cents more a gallon because we have decided that the environment trumps everything.

Hey Mr. Gingrich I'm thinking if we don't have an environment we really don't have anything.

The price of driving

I just do not get it. Why do some people think that the answer to our energy situation is to drill for oil in places we should not be drilling.

Eventually oil that is being sucked out of the ground around the world will run out. We (and I include myself in this we) have been complaining about the price of oil for 40 years! When are we going to get it? Find something else to power our cars, heat our homes, run our toys?

I am sick and tired of listening to people say oh, the price of gas is so high. Yup it is. I paid $4.25 a gallon a few days ago. It cost me $65 to fill up my car.

Last year in Scotland where they sell petrol by the liter (almost four liters to the gallon - yes I had to look that up) we paid nearly 150 pounds every time we filled up our mini van. Do the math - I'll do it for you - $238. That's right $238 to fill up a tank in Scotland. I am sick to death of American's complaining about the price of gasoline. Stop complaining about it, do something about it, stop using so much or shut the fuck up and pay what the rest of the world pays.

Grow a uterus then talk to me about birth control

I was listening to reports on the Republican debate last night. Contraception seemed to be the topic of choice.

I would like to know why in the year 2012 middle aged men are on TV discussion women's contraception. Is it any of their business what a woman does to prevent an unwanted pregnancy? The only time I can think of that it is their business is if it concerns the woman they are sleeping with.

In most cases for the Republican candidates that would be their wives, you just never know about Newt.

Anyway, I cannot comprehend why this is a topic of debate for a presidential election.

I say when you grow a uterus, then you have the right to discuss what type of contraception is acceptable or not. But you only have the right to decide for yourself, not for anybody else.

For Christ's sake why are we still screaming keep your laws off my uterus. My uterus, my decision.

OK, some of you might think this post about birth control is ironic for a lesbian, but at least I have a uterus.

Clear it up for us.

"They mock Gov. Palin, you mock Gov. Palin, as weak and unable to cope and press forward," she told reporters on the conference call. "And the movie and the trailer ... say that. And yet look with your own eyes at what she and her family have endured and inspired over the last few years. Any lesser man would have hanged himself by now. So who's weak?"

Yeah, read that last part again. This person is talking about a movie coming out about the 2008 presidential campaign and Sarah Palin. Seems people that worked for her during this time are up in arms about a movie they have not seen yet and this particular person seems confused about Gov. Palin's gender.

Is there something we don't know?

Private Places

Reading today's Chronicle story about public open spaces reminded me a trip one lunch time with a friend - whom I shall call FedEx chick 1 (cause her girlfriend would be FedEx chick 2 - or vice versa). FedEx peeps and I would assume any other delivery peeps get to go to places most of us don't even know exist.

FedEx chick would tell me stories of rooms in San Francisco where unless you know someone, you don't get to see them. I was intrigued and she took me on a tour.

I don't remember all of them, but I do remember the best. It was a Julia Morgan ballroom located in the Exchange Building. I just looked it up and it is available for rental hmmmm...

Anyway, since I love Julia Morgan buildings, rooms, hell if she designed a dog house, I'd probably like that as well, it was the highlight of the trip.

So many gems are just hidden in plain site.

I will always be grateful to my FedEx peeps for the tour.

Popos find them in your city

When I lived and worked in San Francisco I discovered many public open spaces for those times when you just have to have a few minutes to yourself. In today's Sunday Chronicle is a story about just such places. Updated with new exciting places to explore.

Most of these places are hard to find so a map would come in pretty handy. When you read the article remember I am not suggesting that you bring a shit load of people and monkey chant in the space. I would suggest that you bring your lunch or your camera or your girl and enjoy these spaces.

I'd like to thank John King for reminding me of these spaces and giving me yet one more reason to leave the burbs and return to explore the City once in a while.

Commercial commercial

Does anyone else think that new Toyota commercial is a little ironic.

It is little kids saying "if I was president...."

It ends with one kid saying "and God bless America"

and then the Toyota logo flashes on the screen.

God Bless America - but buy a Japanese car.

Can I register at Macy's yet?

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will release its decision today about my life.

Do I have all the rights of every other adult citizen in this country. Oh, I mean every straight citizen in this country has.

It find it ironic that I am considered a full fledged citizen when it comes time to pay my taxes. In fact while the government won't let me get married they sure have no problem telling me that I have to file my taxes like I'm married, but I can't check that little box that says married.

I don't have a problem paying my taxes, in fact I don't think most of us pay enough taxes. However, when I am paying taxes and denied the same rights as everyone one else I do have a problem with it.

Perhaps every gay person in this country should stop paying their taxes. I think there was a movement like this before. No taxes without representation.

If my government does not give me the same rights as everyone else then I don't feel they are representing me. How about you?

Ugly Beautiful

Today I drove to Sacramento for work. I drive from my house up Highway 5, not a pretty drive, but sometimes prettier than others.

Today's ride showed me ugly.

A man under a truck on the side of the road. Dead and covered by yellow tarp - all except his bald head.

Today's ride also showed me beauty.

Not far from the yellow tarp was an open field full of white egrets.

It reminded me of the thin line the exists between ugly and beauty. How I look at the world around me and I am brought to tears at the ugliness of this world and in the next moment I am amazed at the beauty that surrounds us all if we just look.

WTF???

The potential possibilities of any child are the most intriguing and stimulating in all creation.

~ Ray L. Wilbur ~

I am stunned right now.

I have blogged about this issue before. I will never ever understand this.

Josh Powell was a suspect in the disappearance of his wife Susan in 2009. Susan went missing one night in 2009. Susan and Josh had two sons and Josh told some story about taking the two young boys (around 2 & 5) camping in the middle of the night in winter in Utah. Never made much sense to anyone, but nobody could prove anything.

Josh took the children and moved to Washington state and moved in with Josh's father. Last year Josh's father was arrested for child porn and the young boys were taken away and given to Susan's parents.

Well today they were taken for a supervised visit to their father - their father - who locked the social worker out of the house and then blew the house up with his little boys inside with him.

What the fuck is wrong with people? What was wrong in his head that he thought this was the way to handle this? He was obviously sick in the head, sick in the heart, sick, sick, sick.

Josh Powell will burn in hell forever.

I don't want to hear your phone conversation

Do I really have to listen to your phone call?

It always amazes me how people think they have to speak into a cell phone so that the entire airport waiting area can listen to your entire conversation.

Was just in on a conversation - some kind of tech guy (yeah, surprise) talking to some other tech guy about a job they are working on. Yeah, we have to get our install team down there for a few days to update all the firmware on all their devices cause what they have won't run on the new stuff we are putting in there. Yeah, seems every time we talk about them this job gets more crazy dude.

He finally moved across the terminal from me and I could still hear his conversation. Yes, over all the other noise in an airport terminal I could hear one guy's phone conversation.

His last words were: Drive safe and remember to hydrate.

Where the fuck was this other guy?

Poor Mitt

Out of touch. Really you think so?

Mitt Romney: "I am not concerned with the very poor - we have a safety net there."

Really? A safety net? Where?

14.7 children in this country live in poverty.

Are republicans responsible for this - yes!

Are democrats responsible for this - yes!

But, my god what the fuck is he saying?

Honorable Newt?

Websters defines honor as:

to regard or treat (someone) with admiration and respect

and they use the following as an example:

When we got married, we promised to love and honor each other.

So....

After losing the Florida primary Newt says if elected as President he will give his life, his fortune and his honor to this country.

His honer?

Is this the same honer he brought into his three marriages? The same honer he brought into his affairs? I really don't have a problem with people that have multiple relationships, but don't run for public office on a honorable platform if you have ended all those relationships by having affairs with other people.

I ask what definition of honor is he using?
